ABOUT ME
Thank you for the opportunity to work with your family!
I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist (California PSY18057), specializing in individual, family and group psychotherapy for children, teens and young adults. I graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1989 (BA in Psychology). I obtained a master’s degree in Behavior Analysis and Therapy from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 1992, and a master’s degree and doctorate in Developmental and Child Psychology from the University of Kansas in 1998.
I have been in private practice in San Luis Obispo, California since 2002. I provide psychological care to kids and parents who struggle with life adjustment issues, stress management difficulties, parent-child interaction challenges, sibling conflict, Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Depression, and Autism Spectrum Disorders and related learning problems. I offer behavioral and cognitive-behavior therapy in addition to social and life skills training. Family members are usually an integral part of the treatment process. One unique component to my practice is incorporation of community visits and school meeting attendance.
As part of my psychotherapy services, I frequently collaborate with Sean Dornan of The Central Coast Learning Center, Syndi Ecker, board certified behavior analyst, and PEAKS Clinic (offering psychological evaluations).
In 2006 I published a book with Marion O’Brien, Ph.D. titled Beyond the Autism Diagnosis: A Professional’s Guide to Helping Families, by Paul H. Brooks Publishing Company. I have also collaborated with The Marlo Group, an educational film production company, to create Autism 411 Kits. These are ‘starter’ kits for families and professionals to intervene successfully with a child on the Autism Spectrum. I have also published multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals related to functional assessment and behavior analysis applied to improving the lives of children.
